Abstract
Cet article examine l’évolution de l’ethnologie au Québec, particulièrement à l’Université Laval qui constitue l’un des principaux pôles de son développement disciplinaire, à travers la production scientifique (mémoires, thèses, publications, projets de recherches, etc.), afin d’en identifier les sujets, les orientations et les approches. Si les années 1940 à 1980 ont fait l’objet de plusieurs bilans historiographiques, la période des vingt dernières années (1980-2000) a échappé, jusqu’ici, à une critique systématique. L’évolution de l’ethnologie est liée au développement des sciences humaines et sociales en général ; certains universitaires ont contribué, par leurs positions théoriques, leurs réalisations ou leurs avancées, à définir l’ethnologie telle que nous la pratiquons aujourd’hui. L’examen critique de la production scientifique des deux dernières décennies tend à révéler que, jusqu’au milieu des années 1980, il s’est surtout pratiqué au Québec une ethnologie classique. La période suivante aura tout mis en oeuvre pour que l’ethnologie des années 2000 soit plurielle et résolument multidisciplinaire.
