This study describes and discusses the creative process by which the novel I,The Supreme by A. R. Bastos transform social reality, deeply marked by thehistorical experience of colonization, to overcome through the use of poeticimagination, represented figuratively in terms of metafiction, the constraintsinherent to the utterance in Hispanic American literature that transform thenature of the communication and the nature of the text and language as well.
