Abstract
Dans le Québec français de la seconde moitié du siècle dernier, le projet colonisateur se présente, en son noyau essentiel, comme une utopie de reconquête par une stratégie formellement légale et pacifique d'expansion et d'occupation territoriales. Cest sans doute pourquoi il est accueilli et porté avec une pareille unanimité, même par les personnes et les groupes les plus antagonistes sous divers rapports au sein de cette société, tandis qu'il trouve au contraire régulièrement ses adversaires et ses détracteurs chez le colonisateur anglo-saxon. L'on pourrait cependant douter à bon droit de la teneur utopique d'un projet dont la réalisation n'impliquerait aucune lutte avec diverses formes de «l'ordre établi». C'est cet aspect conflictuel de la pratique colonisatrice qui est rappelé ici, en montrant plus particulièrement comment, dans la vallée de l'Outaouais et à l'époque du curé Labelle, la coopération symbiotique initiale entre le mouvement colonisateur et les puissances économiques représentées par l'industrie forestière recouvre bientôt des antagonismes et des conflits d'intérêt encore plus profonds.
