La Ville de Montréal gère depuis la fin des années ‘70 un réseau de neuf parcs-nature s’étendant sur une superficie de 13 km2. Les objectifs de ce réseau sont la conservation des écosystèmes, l’éducation et la diffusion des connaissances et la pratique d’activités de plein air. Dans le but de consolider ces objectifs et de permettre leur application harmonieuse au sein de territoires restreints, la Ville s’est dotée d’un Programme de gestion des écosystèmes des parcs-nature comprenant quatre phases: inventaires biophysiques; évaluation des unités écologiques; interventions sur les écosystèmes; et suivi d’indicateurs. Le présent document s’articule principalement autour de la deuxième phase de ce programme étant donné son importance dans l’orientation des plans de mise en valeur des parcs-nature en regard aux objectifs fixés. Les critères permettant l’évaluation de la valeur écologique, de la susceptibilité à la dégradation et du potentiel éducatif des unités écologiques constituant les parcs-nature sont donc présentés et justifiés. Les potentiels et contraintes du réseau sont ensuite discutés.
