Abstract
Peu d’écrits font part des croyances et des construits qui influencent l’expérience chez les couples dont un des conjoints est atteint d’insuffisance cardiaque (IC). Cet article résume une recherche qualitative qui vise à décrire les représentations sociales associées à l’IC chez 11 couples dont un conjoint est atteint d’IC. Les représentations sociales qui émergent de l’étude ainsi que leur similitude ou différence entre conjoints suscitent des réflexions intéressantes sur leur lien avec l’expérience de la maladie. Une différence entre hommes et femmes est notable dans les représentations sociales liées au rôle de la personne atteinte et du conjoint dans la gestion de la maladie. Les résultats soulignent, entre autres, l’importance d’offrir un soutien centré sur l’expérience des deux conjoints.
