Abstract
Cet article vise à retracer, dans divers fragments des Pensées, une certaine conception du sujet pascalien devant les formes ouvertes de l’éternité. Cette conception prend d’abord racine dans une conscience du déclin de l’histoire qui s’inscrit sans doute dans l’héritage de la réforme calvinienne. C’est ainsi que Cioran d’abord, puis Goldmann lisent l’oeuvre de Pascal. Mais Pascal s’intéresse avant tout au statut du sujet moderne dans l’histoire et hors de l’histoire. Produit en quelque sorte du déclin, ce sujet ne peut être que projeté dans une digression sans fin. Il échappe donc, dans la forme béante qui lui est donnée dans les Pensées, aux contraintes du récit.
