Abstract
À la fin des années trente, les Frères de l’Instruction chrétienne publient pour leurs élèves du secondaire une collection de biographies hagiographiques, « Au service des jeunes », suivie d’une collection de biographies historiques, « Gloires nationales », rédigées entièrement par Guy Laviolette, d’un roman Jusqu’au bout ! de l’auteur Dollard des Ormeaux et de Connaissances usuelles, première collection moderne de documentaires, rédigée par Charles Lorenzo, pseudonyme du frère Wilfrid Paquin. Une certaine figure de l’adolescent se dégage de ces publications et s’impose dans le paratexte et dans le texte, selon la conception que les frères enseignants se faisaient à la fois de la lecture et des jeunes.
