Abstract
Le mouvement du commerce équitable promeut un nouveau modèle de commerce international qui reçoit un accueil grandissant. Bien que la certification par un organisme tiers soit maintenant en place, on remarque une asymétrie des conditions imposées aux organisations du Sud comparativement à celles du Nord, notamment quant au mode de gouvernance. Equal Exchange, une coopérative de travailleurs aux États-Unis, pourrait devenir un modèle pour les OCE en Amérique du Nord. En effet, ses structures et pratiques reflètent l’ensemble des principes du commerce équitable, y compris ceux imposés au Sud. On découvre une parente de la coopérative de solidarité québécoise, mais à saveur internationale.
