Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

An improved perturbation solution procedure for solving the non-linear differential equation governing spatially-varied flows (SVF) in open channels is described. The procedure corrects for the non-uniformity in the cross-stream distribution of streamwise velocity that is characteristic of this type of flow. Validation of the new procedure is accomplished using Gill’s (1977) laboratory data sets of SVF with increasing discharge. In addition, momentum correction factors (β) are determined for the 19 different SVF considered. Three sets of water surface profile simulations are then performed, assuming: (i) β = 1, (ii) β = computed β, and (iii) β = average β and the results are compared with the observed profiles. The comparison study indicates that, if β is assumed equal to unity in the analysis, this can lead to large discrepancies between the predicted and observed water surface profiles. On the other hand, when comparing the respective accuracies of the simulations based on β = β and, only a marginal improvement in the simulation is achieved when the former is used.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
