Abstract
À la lumière du lien entre l'assimilation linguistique et la crise de l'unité canadienne, nous examinons, au moyen des données de recensements, les tendances de l'assimilation des allophones au Québec et des minorités francophones dans les autres provinces. Il en ressort une francisation relative des immigrants récents au Québec, attribuable à une immigration accrue en provenance de pays de langue latine ou de la francophonie et, dans une moindre mesure, à la scolarisation obligatoire en français prévue par les lois 22 et 101. En revanche, l'anglicisation est plus forte qu'en 1971 parmi les immigrés établis depuis plus longtemps et les allophones nés au Québec. Ailleurs au Canada, l'anglicisation des francophones est partout à la hausse sauf, peut-être, au Nouveau-Brunswick. Les tendances défavorables au français appellent une révision majeure de la politique canadienne en ce qui concerne la langue, la culture et la nationalité du Canada français.
