Abstract
L'équilibre économique, selon lequel la demande de services de santé s'harmonise avec l'offre, est un phénomène insaisissable dans les systèmes de santé du monde entier, mais certains pays sont plus près de la stase économique que le Canada. En 2008, l'indice euro-canadien des consommateurs de services de santé a classé le Canada au 30 e rang des 30 pays étudiés en matière d'optimisation des ressources. Les temps d'attente étaient le point le plus faible du Canada, et sur le plan de la conception, du contexte et de l'économie des systèmes, il était évident que le système de santé du Canada était en déséquilibre. Les Canadiens peuvent tirer des enseignements de l'Autriche. Si le Canada s'attend à une meilleure optimisation de chaque dollar de santé, il lui faudra revoir les inducteurs de coût dans une restructuration. Ce n'est qu'alors qu'il approchera de l'équilibre.
