L'article remet en question la vertu de l'éducation à la tolérance en la situant dans le prolongement des visées colonialistes occidentales. Adoptant une perspective critique, Fautrice interprète la Loi sur les Indiens comme un symbole d'intolérance, puisque cette Loi va à contresens du système traditionnel démo- cratique des autochtones. Loin de pouvoir être relevé par l'application d'un code de comportements de tolérance, le défi de la paix et de l'harmonie suppose que les enseignantes et les enseignants adoptent une perspective culturelle critique de façon à favoriser le plus possible l'ouverture d'esprit si nécessaire à l'essor d'une éducation à la paix dans son sens véritable.
