西南暖地向けに育成されたダイズ新品種サチユタカの生育特性を明らかにするため, フクユタカと比較しその乾物生産特性について調査を行った. 両品種を2001年7月9日および2002年7月4日に播種し, 生育, 乾物生産, 収量および収量構成要素を測定した. その結果, サチユタカはフクユタカに比べて開花期, 成熟期ともに早く栄養成長量は小さかったが, 収量には有意な差はなかったため, 粒茎比が高くなった. 葉面積指数 (LAI), 個体群成長速度 (CGR), 地上部全重, 茎重については開花期まではサチユタカの方が高かったが, 開花期以降サチユタカではあまり増加がみられず, 最大値はフクユタカのほうが高かった. なお, 両品種の光合成速度, 純同化率 (NAR) には差異はみられなかった. 一方, 莢実重は, サチユタカでは増加開始時期は早いが成長速度には両品種間に差はみられなかった. 茎重は成熟期に近づくにつれて減少した. さらに, 茎中の非構造性炭水化物含有率は開花期においては両品種に差がなかったが, 成熟期に近づくにつれて大きく低下し, その低下率はサチユタカで65%, フクユタカで40%であった. これらのことから茎中に蓄積された炭水化物が子実肥大期に莢実に再転流されたことが考えられた. 以上の結果から, 栄養成長量の小さいサチユタカがフクユタカに匹敵する収量を得られたのは, 開花までの成長速度がやや高く, 栄養成長の停止が早いため栄養成長と生殖成長の間の同化産物の競合が弱く, さらに茎中の非構造性炭水化物の再転流が多いことで同化産物の利用効率が高まったためであると考えられた.
