Abstract
Nous avons determine les caracteristiques cristallines des phases 'tantale', Ta 2 O 5 , Ta 2 C et TaC par diffraction des rayons X aux hautes temperatures entre 293 et 2278K sous vide ou sous faible pression de monoxyde de carbone. Nous montrons que la structure de la phase metallique est stabilisee par insertion d'atomes d'oxygene dans ses sites octaedriques. Cette phase s'oxyde spontanement sous vide d'autant plus facilement que la temperature est faible et se transforme tour a tour en hemioxyde Ta 2 O puis en pentaoxyde Ta 2 O 5 . Cette oxydation est suivie d'une carburation a la faveur de l'introduction de monoxyde de carbone qui provoque l'apparition des carbures Ta 2 C et TaC et cela jusqu'a 1816K, temperature au dessus de laquelle s'amorce une decarburation progressive jusqu'a reapparition du metal comme cela a ete le cas pour le niobium.
