There is recent interest to establish non-line-of-sight (NLOS) links in the solar-blind ultraviolet (UV) region for outdoor optical wireless communications. A new channel model is proposed based on the propagation and detection statistics of the channel. Unlike previous work, in this paper, the performance of NLOS UV communication systems is investigated by numerically computing the information rates for a uniform binary input distribution. Simulation results indicate that conventional uncoded transmission is far from capacity and that large gains in data rate can be had by applying error control coding.
