Abstract
Cet article propose une réflexion historiographique sur le rôle de l’Église catholique dans l’assistance au Québec. Deux caractéristiques dominantes ressortent de cette analyse : la présence encore grande du paradigme du « contrôle social » et la pénétration encore timide des thèses dites « révisionnistes » dans les travaux francophones publiés sur ce thème depuis 1985. Le poids d’une mauvaise conscience tenace, renforcée par le débat public récent portant sur la question des « orphelins de Duplessis », colore significativement cette dimension de l’histoire de l’Église catholique.
