Abstract
Cette etude comporte deux buts. Le premier est de documenter le lien asymetrique et negatif entre les mecanismes de desengagement psychologique et le niveau de l'estime de soi. Le deuxieme est de poursuivre l'investigation de l'effet protecteur du desengagement psychologique par l'evaluation d'une autre facette de l'estime de soi, sa stabilite. Cette etude realisee aupres de 152 policiers confirme que le desengagement permet aux personnes d'assurer la stabilite de leur estime de soi. Les resultats de cette etude militent en faveur de l'hypothese de la cote sociale du metier comme explication de l'association variable entre le desengagement et le niveau d'estime de soi. En discussion, nous levons le voile sur la face cachee de l'effet protecteur du desengagement.
