Abstract
Abstract: T.S. Denison’s Patsy O’Wang gives insight into the place of Chinese and Irish immigrants in a changing American racial hierarchy. The present article argues that, while the play demonstrates the significance of American nationalism, the title character, of mixed blood, ironically challenges the traditional racial ideologies that constructed social meanings through biological differences and suggests that the ethnic identity is made through cultural constructs.
