Abstract
À travers son oeuvre dramatique et narrative, Samuel Beckett semble s’acharner à concrétiser une intention caractérisée par une dichotomie clausulaire : celle de la sollicitation et de la répulsion perpétuelles de la clausule. Au fil de la spatialisation qui se néantise, de la temporalité qui se distend, de la déshumanisation des créatures peuplant la totalité de l’oeuvre, de l’inertie de plus en plus grande, du discours qui tergiverse et revient sur lui-même et de l’organisation circulaire, les récits comme les drames beckettiens semblent progresser vers une clausule impossible. Par un art rigoureusement maîtrisé, par l’utilisation de procédés semblables et à travers deux genres littéraires distincts, Beckett met en place une intention qui transcende sa production : celle du désir de la fin, mais de sa trop grande crainte pour lui permettre d’arriver une fois pour toutes. Celle de ce qui apparaît comme une forme clausulaire nouvelle : la clausule asymptotique.
