Abstract
Os relatórios de organizações internacionais evidenciam que 200 milhões de pessoas consumiram alguma droga ilícita entre 2001 e 2002, ou seja, 3,4% da população mundial. Este artigo apresenta uma reflexão sobre a educação em saúde como uma estratégia viável para a Enfermagem na prevenção e promoção da saúde em relação ao alcoolismo. Na primeira parte do texto, tratamos da problemática do alcoolismo no mundo; na segunda parte, apresentamos aspectos teóricos contextuais acerca da educação em saúde, como estratégia de apoio à promoção da saúde e prevenção do alcoolismo; na terceira parte, apresentamos algumas experiências de sucesso na prevenção do uso e abuso do álcool e, finalmente, na terceira parte desta reflexão, colocamos a importância da atuação da Enfermagem e da equipe de saúde na utilização da educação em saúde como possibilidade para atuar de forma preventiva contra o alcoolismo.
