Abstract
Résumé Après avoir examiné les proportions dans lesquelles les personnes âgées et notamment les femmes ont vu leur nombre s’accroître dans les dernières décennies, cet article examine une des composantes de la différenciation sexuelle : la maltraitance que subissent les personnes âgées de la part des générations plus jeunes, surtout celles de sexe féminin. En s’appuyant sur plusieurs enquêtes, les auteures analysent les manifestations de cette maltraitance : physique ou morale, en institution ou à domicile. Elles s’interrogent sur la différence de traitement faite aux femmes et aux hommes dans leur troisième âge et essaient d’en trouver les raisons.
