Asymétrie occupationnelle et localisation résidentielle des familles à double revenu à Montréal

Abstract
La croissance du nombre de familles à double revenu invite à repenser conjointement les rapports entre sexes et catégories occupationnelles, en vue d'affiner, notamment, les interprétations de la stratification sociale et de la localisation résidentielle en milieu urbain. Un indice d'asymétrie, calculé sur une échelle des occupations hiérarchisée selon les critères d'autorité, de complexité cognitive et de routinisation, permet de mesurer les variations temporelles et spatiales de l'écart entre les occupations des conjoints dans l'agglomération de Montréal. L'asymétrie apparaît plus prononcée dans les occupations fondées sur l'autorité et dans les quartiers centraux. Ces deux tendances s'amenuisent toutefois entre 1971 et 1981. Les résultats supportent l'hypothèse de Simon Langlois quant à la présence de deux genres de vie distincts dans les familles à double revenu.
