Abstract
Une recherche à devis qualitatif effectuée à Montréal de mars à juillet 1990 visait à connaître l’expérience et les besoins d'aidants naturels de personnes vivant avec le VIH afin de mieux orienter les services du Centre Pierre-Hénault créé par des aidants naturels. Dix-huit personnes se sont portées volontaires pour des entrevues en profondeur, dont neuf s'occupant de personnes ayant un sida déclaré, quatre, de personnes séropositives et cinq, de personnes maintenant décédées des suites du VIH. Il s'avère que les risques d'isolement qui menacent les aidants naturels en général sont plus élevés dans le cas des aidants de personnes vivant avec le VIH. Même si la recherche retrouve des traits fondamentaux que partagent d'autres types d'aidants, ceux de personnes vivant avec le VIH présentent des spécificités liées au caractère tabou et stigmatisant du sida et à la perte rapide et imprévue d'êtres jeunes.
