L’estimation des mouvements migratoires par le biais de soldes migratoires conduit à faire porter sur cette mesure tout le poids des erreurs attachées aux différentes composantes utilisées (population et événements). Une erreur relative sur une composante dont l’effectif est important a un impact plus grand sur une mesure résiduelle qu’une erreur relative similaire sur les événements. C’est pourquoi une correction est apportée au calcul des soldes migratoires par groupe d’âge et par sexe de la période 1971-76 afin de tenir compte du sous-dénombrement différentiel de la population du Québec entre 1971 et 1976. La prise en compte du sous-dénombrement conduit à une estimation du solde migratoire de +20 507 alors que le solde non corrigé était de -35 418, soit un écart de 55 925. Un examen de la fiabilité de ces estimations corrigées est proposé et suggère l’utilisation d’intervalles de confiance pour mieux décrire le phénomène.
