Abstract
La cosmétologie répond à certaines des exigences esthétiques des corps malmenés par la vie. Quant aux médicaments psychotropes, c’est-à-dire qui ont des effets d’altération sur l’esprit, ils promettent d’assister efficacement un psychisme tourmenté par l’existence et de servir de remède à la déprime. En ce temps de marché à court terme, une culture du tout-médicament peut-elle délivrer du mal-être ? Dans la mesure où survivre n’est plus un impératif, un mélange d’exaltation et de peur oppose aux circonstances l’écran protecteur d’une médication qui induit une nouvelle posture au monde, dans la promesse de nouveaux apprentissages de soi. Avec ses incitations à consommer vite et à prendre du plaisir sans réfléchir aux conséquences, la société de consommation produit des dépendances qui nourrissent une culpabilisation généralisée. Étant donné la confusion des désirs et des fonctions qui peuplent le quotidien, nous vivons à l’ère de la sollicitation en permanence des ressources personnelles, avec la peur de ne pas être à la hauteur. La recherche éperdue d’un discours qui ferait échec au mal-être s’accommode des représentations que nous inventons, pour notre plus grand plaisir ou pour notre malheur, dans le but d’apprivoiser le simple fait de vivre.
