Forms of Service (1926): A Study in the Liturgical Ethos of The United Church of Canada

Abstract
Worship in the United Church of Canada has received very little scholarly attention. In the past two decades a handful of contributions have taken steps toward addressing this lacuna. However. these have tended to share the assumption that the story begins with The Book of Common Order of 1932 (BCO). What is conspicuous is the absence of any serious consideration of the first service book of the United Church of Canada. 1926 Forms of Service (Forms). This paper will argue that Forms. its sources. content and context. suggests a different starting point for the study of United Church worship.
