Cet article, qui fut d’abord une conférence prononcée lors du Colloque sur Charles De Koninck, à l’Université Laval, du 29 au 31 janvier 2010, se propose d’introduire aux thèmes majeurs de la philosophie de la nature de l’ancien doyen de la Faculté de philosophie. Se fondant sur la récente édition de ses écrits cosmologiques et épistémologiques, notamment sur un texte de jeunesse (1936), Le cosmos , devenu introuvable et profus en intuitions neuves, l’exposé se propose d’y discerner trois couches de plus en plus profondes. La première expose avec bonheur et pédagogie la philosophie de la nature aristotélico-thomasienne. La deuxième se situe à la croisée féconde de cette première perspective et de l’apport philosophiquement intégré des sciences actuelles, notamment l’histoire du cosmos et de la vie (l’évolution). Enfin, l’étude émet l’hypothèse que, dès ses premières années d’enseignement, Charles De Koninck a ébauché une approche inédite et inachevée touchant les principes même de sa philosophie, que l’on pourrait intituler de manière programmatique : une cosmologie de l’amour.
