Abstract
Les sociétés contemporaines traversent une crise axiologique profonde à laquelle, comme les autres acteurs, se trouvent confrontés les mouvements sociaux. Étant partie prenante de l'histoire de la modernité, les mouvements sociaux ont joué un rôle de révélateurs, tout comme ils ont été engagés dans la redéfinition des enjeux de cette modernité. Considérant les travaux récents sur les mouvements sociaux et prenant l'exemple des mouvements urbains à Montréal, l'auteur tente de cerner à la fois la complexité et la spécificité des mouvements sociaux contemporains. En dernière analyse, quelle interprétation peut-on faire de leur action à la lumière de la crise de la modernité?
