Abstract
This special series in Pediatric Blood & Cancer comprises a series of articles generated from a gathering of experts in the field of congenital and acquired bleeding disorders of childhood. The occasion that stimulated this collection was a celebration of the career of Dr. Victor Blanchette on May 16, 2011, at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, at which each of these individuals spoke. As the reader will see, the manuscripts derived from these lectures reflect the breadth of scientific knowledge from fundamental discovery research to clinical trials and epidemiology through translation into clinical practice. Zipursky and Coppes have written a tribute to Dr. Blanchette on the occasion of his being awarded the 2012 Distinguished Career Award from the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology 1. The publication of this tribute, which highlights Victor's career and personal accomplishments, complements the work presented in this issue of the journal. In addition to all the authors whose work is included in this Special Supplement and who spoke at the Symposium held on May 16, 2011 in Toronto we also wish to thank the following individuals who assisted with moderating sessions during the Symposium and reviewed manuscripts prior to their submission: Drs.
