Abstract
SIR, We read the article by Henz et al.1 on borage oil in patients with atopic eczema with great interest. It was quite surprising that the authors concluded that there was no clinical effect in the overall population. The overall population included non‐compliant patients who consumed less than 70% of capsules and some patients who used excessive amounts of corticosteroid cream. It was assumed by the authors that the patients who used excessive corticosteroid had either severe eczema or were not properly instructed. Under both situations, these patients should have been excluded from the analysis as they did not meet the selection criteria. Subgroup analysis excluding these patients demonstrated a significant effect of borage oil treatment. In our opinion, this should have been the major and truthful conclusion of the study. Entire group analysis was not warranted as all the patients did not meet the criteria. The authors could have mentioned the entire group analysis and suggested further trials.
