Le pluton leucogranitique dit de Lake Lewis, a teneurs elevees en Rb, Li, B, Nb, Ta, Sn, U, Th et F, est un membre fortement evolue du batholithe de South Mountain, en Nouvelle-Ecosse. Les mineraux principaux sont quartz + albite + feldspath potassique ′ topaze + quatre membres du groupe des micas: Bt 1 , une biotite magmatique precoce, piegee dans le quartz, Bt 2 , le mica sombre pleochroique principal, Ms s s , le mica blanc principal, et PMI, phase micacee intermediaire a faible pleochroisme. Le mica PMI se presente normalement en surcroissance rectiligne, bien definie, optiquement continue, a comportement oscillatoire, quelque peu heterogene, et epitactique sur Bt 2 et Ms s s . Tous les micas semblent primaires (magmatiques) d'apres leur texture. La composition de PMI, en termes d'elements majeurs, se situe entre Ms s s et Bt 2 . En termes d'elements-traces, la muscovite Ms s s (n = 24) et le mica PMI (n = 15), analyses par LAM-ICP-MS, contiennent (en ppm): Sc 18.6, 20.3; V 3,6, 9.3; Zr 3.2, 1.2; Hf 0.32, 0.20; Nb 167, 167; Ta 13.7. 21.2; Rb 2369, 3090; Cs 62, 433; et Ba 11, 31, respectivement. Des oscillations impliquant Bt 2 -IMP et Ms s s -IMP temoigneraient d'une cristallisation en presence d'oscillations des variables T-P-X. Des montees et evacuations repetees de la pression de H 2 O dans la chambre magmatique pourraient expliquer les oscillations en croissance epitactique dans ces micas: les zones Bt 2 et Ms s s auraient cristallise a partir du magma a un point ou la pression etait lithostatique et ou a(H 2 O) etait inferieur a 1, tandis que les zones a mica PMI auraient cristallise a partir d'un magma dont les populations d'elements-traces avaient ete modifiees suite a l'exsolution d'une phase gazeuse, lors d'une periode ou la pression depassait la pression lithostatique, et ou la valeur de a(H 2 O) etait egale a 1. L'heterogeneite du mica PMI pourrait bien resulter d'une destabilisation subsolidus ou d'une exsolution. Les micas a zones de croissance epitactiques oscillatoires du leucogranite de Lake Lewis agiraient en quelque sorte de manometre sur la pompe hydraulique responsable de l'alteration hydrothermale, de l'association aplite - pegmatite - greisen, des gites mineraux, de la cataclase, et meme de l'eruption de la chambre magmatique.
