Abstract
This article explores the way in which writing relates to space and space to writing in the unpublished Diary of the French writer Yves Navarre, who lived in Montreal for two years (1989–1991) and donated his Journal to the Bibliothèque Nationale du Québec before going back to Paris, where he committed suicide in 1994. A presentation of the diary's striking features is followed by a study of the role played by travels and the comments they generate, leading to an analysis of the links between self-writing and space in Navarre's Journal.
