RÉSUMÉ Les chamanes mapuche et l'expérience religieuse des hommes et des femmes Dans son exploration du chamanisme. cet article adopte la perspective du féminisme critique pour proposer un discours réflexif sur le rôle du genre dans ses rapports au pouvoir, au prestige et à l'expérience religieuse. Je prends l'exemple ethnographique des chamanes mapuche. ou machi. du sud du Chili, pour expliquer comment le genre est diversement construit, et pour montrer les corrélations entre le chamanisme. l'art de la guerre et l'agriculture, l'impact de la société chilienne chrétienne, la fécondité, l'androgynie. la féminité et le pouvoir religieux. Je démontre que les constructions du genre sont spécifiques au contexte, complexes, changeantes et parfois contradictoires. L'idéologie mapuche de la complémentarité masculin/féminin est présente dans la cosmologie, incarnée par les machi (on croit qu'ils possèdent les deux genres) et dans les rapports qui existent entre les symboles rituels, mais elle ne se maintient pas toujours dans la pratique. Je montre que dans le domaine des rôles sociaux et de l'identité sexuelle, l'aspect féminin des machi prend plus d'importance. Les hommes machi s'assimilent aux femmes par le travestissement et par une éventuelle homosexualité, tandis que les femmes machi conservent leur habillement féminin, les rôles attribués à leur genre et à leur identité sexuelle.
