En France, 90 % des enfants qui redoublent l’année de CP n’obtiendront jamais le baccalauréat. C’est dire à la fois combien les premiers apprentissages en lecture sont déterminants et aussi combien il est impératif d’aider efficacement les apprentis-lecteurs à surmonter les premières difficultés qu’ils rencontrent.Cette recherche traite de l’aide apportée aux apprentis-lecteurs en difficulté en France, au Québec et dans le Bade-Wurtemberg. Elle compare les approches didactiques mises en œuvre lors de séances de soutien proposées dans le cadre scolaire à des élèves de 1ère et 2ème année d’école élémentaire. Elle permet non seulement de caractériser différents choix pédagogiques, d’analyser leurs forces et leurs faiblesses, mais aussi d’esquisser les contours de réponses cohérentes aux difficultés d’apprentissage de la lecture.
