Abstract
La lettre tue, mais l’Esprit vivifie. Cette petite phrase, lettre autorisée au coeur du texte fondateur qu’est la Bible, nous invite à porter un regard critique sur le type de rapport à ce texte lui-même. Que fonde le texte reçu comme fondateur? Qu’en est-il du rapport au fondement quand la lecture se fait mortifère et que le texte tue, littéralement? Comment lire ce texte pour qu’il vivifie? Certains exemples historiques de lectures mortifères du texte fondateur sont envisagées pour montrer comment peut devenir meurtrière l’autorité accordée à certains textes. Puis un texte longtemps ostracisé (Jn 7,53-8,11) retient l’attention comme mise en scène d’une résistance à l’utilisation accusatrice du fondateur-texte. Ce qui amène à revoir certaines approches du ou des textes fondateurs et à proposer des critères pour une herméneutique vivifiante.
