Abstract
Au-delà des passions partisanes qu’il ne manquera pas de déchaîner, le débat référendaire devrait fournir l’occasion de soulever quelques éléments nécessaires à la discussion portant sur le nationalisme québécois dans un contexte social où la défense des droits individuels semble retirer toute légitimité aux revendications politiques fondées sur une représentation communautariste de la société. À l’encontre des analyses l’opposant dichotomiquement aux aspirations démocratiques, on avance ici l’hypothèse selon laquelle le nationalisme francophone peut constituer un lieu de rassemblement à l’intérieur duquel la crise du lien social que traverse le Québec, comme toutes les sociétés modernes, peut trouver un début de dénouement.
