Abstract
L’oeuvre de Saint-Denys Garneau consiste essentiellement en soixante-dix ou quatre-vingts poèmes qu’il a écrits de 1934 à 1938, alors qu’il avait entre vingt-deux et vingt-six ans. Peu de temps après la publication de Regards et jeux dans l’espace, en 1937, il a cessé d’écrire et renié son oeuvre parce qu’il a cru qu’elle ne satisfaisait pas à une exigence de vérité qui définissait à ses yeux la poésie. On cherche ici à préciser, à partir de l’examen des variantes de Regards et jeux dans l’espace et des pages du Journal dans lesquelles il juge ses poèmes, quelle est cette vérité et quelle relation le poète entretient avec ce qu’il écrit.
