China continued its efforts in implementing multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs). Important progress has been made in honouring China’s commitments under the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (Vienna Convention), the Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer (Montreal Protocol), and the Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade (PIC Convention). China has basically met the targets for energy conservation and emissions reductions it set for itself for the period 2005-10. National strategies, legislation, policies, or action plans have also been developed to implement the Vienna Convention, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (Stockholm Convention), the PIC Convention, the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal (Basel Convention), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
