Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The present paper is a translation of the Chan monk Hongzhi Zhenjue’s 宏智正覺 biography in the Daming gaoseng zhuan 大明高僧傳 (Great Ming Biographies of Eminent Monks) and includes an introductory essay that places the biography in context. In particular, the introductory essay suggests that the inclusion of Hongzhi's biography in the Daming gaoseng zhuan is important in light of the diminished popularity of the Eminent Monks series and the growing popularity of the Chan hagiographic genres of yulu (“records of sayings”) and denglu (“records of the lamps”), which implicitly represented Chan as distinct from other Chinese Buddhist traditions.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
