Abstract
Depuis le début du 20e siècle, mais en particulier depuis 1980, le pentecôtisme s’est étendu dans le monde de façon inégalée par rapport aux autres mouvements religieux contemporains. Cette expansion inégalée s’est effectuée aussi bien en Amérique latine qu’en Afrique. Le propos de ce texte est de chercher l’explication de cette expansion dans les rapports entre politique et religieux et d’inviter à une réflexion, plutôt théorique, sur les imaginaires politiques et les imaginaires religieux. L’hypothèse sous-jacente discutée dans ce texte est que la croissance de ce mouvement religieux résulte d’une transformation du politique qui de transcendant, dans la forme classique de l’État moderne, est devenu de plus en plus immanent. Cette hypothèse est exploratoire.
