Le 30 novembre 2001, le professeur Edgar L. Newman nous a quittés au terme d'une longue maladie qu'il affronta avec beaucoup de courage. Longtemps professeur à l'Université du Nouveau-Mexique à Las Cruces, il avait tardivement rejoint la Pennsylvanie (Millersville U.), tout en ne cessant pas de se signaler aux États-Unis et en France comme l'un des meilleurs historiens de la France du XIXe siècle, en particulier de la Révolution de 1830 dont il se faisait une très haute idée.
