Abstract
Cet article vise à mettre en place les principaux jalons théoriques d’une approche culturelle de l’économie politique internationale. Combinant certains éléments d’approches hétérodoxes en économie politique — sociologie historique, géographie critique, économie institutionnaliste —, la sociologie marxienne y est réinterprétée dans les termes d’une critique des imaginaires au fondement même de la modernité capitaliste. Dans un premier temps, l’articulation entre mode de production, production de subjectivité et modalités de pouvoir est analysée en vue d’expliciter l’enchâssement symbolique des pratiques constitutives du capitalisme. Dans un deuxième temps, l’apport de l’approche culturelle de l’économie politique internationale est exposé, en insistant sur sa contribution à une compréhension dialectique des formes contemporaines du capitalisme. Nous soutenons que le capitalisme contemporain — la société globale de l’information comprise comme un système autoreproducteur — se matérialise dans des pratiques culturelles de même que dans des espaces sociaux spécifiques, qui participent à sa reproduction à la fois symbolique et matérielle.
