Abstract
L’enquête-rappel de 1976 fait suite à celle menée en 1971 auprès de femmes québécoises (nées après 1935). Elle nous révèle que la majorité des promotions ont modifié à la baisse leur pronostic en matière de descendance finale; la réduction est assez faible pour les promotions les plus anciennes, mais fort appréciable pour les plus jeunes. L’enquête montre une certaine révolution depuis 1971 dans le choix par les couples des moyens de contraception. Une femme sur trois de l’échantillon de 1976 appartient à un couple dont l’un des conjoints a été stérilisé? De plus un bon nombre d’autres femmes manifestent l’intention de recourir à ce moyen radical dans l’avenir plutôt que de risquer d’avoir un enfant de plus qu’elles n’en souhaitent. Cette forte détermination des couples à ne pas dépasser un certain nombre d’enfants va de pair avec l’indifférence que ces derniers manifestent envers les mesures proposées pour rehausser leur fécondité.
