Abstract
Dans la foulée d’une relecture du lien entre francophones minoritaires et espaces urbains autour des notions de réseaux sociaux et de vitalité, ce texte aborde une dimension peu étudiée, soit l’interaction des francophones avec les institutions politiques locales à travers la participation des Acadiens à la gouvernance du développement économique. Le Moncton métropolitain fournit un terrain de recherche particulièrement fructueux vu la territorialisation linguistique de la population et le rôle clé joué par les Acadiens dans la relance économique remarquable du Grand Moncton depuis 1990. L’analyse compare les stratégies de développement de deux municipalités, Moncton et Dieppe, et la place occupée par les francophones dans ces stratégies. Si le type d’intervention se ressemble parfois, les deux villes construisent des représentations distinctes de la francophonie, Moncton affichant le bilinguisme de sa main-d’oeuvre pour attirer des investisseurs, alors que Dieppe bâtit un modèle d’urbanité axé sur une occupation de l’espace urbain par les Acadiens.
