Abstract
Eisenstein fut-il un acteur manqué? On sait qu'il mimait, jouait volontiers les rôles dont il parlait dans son enseignement. Cependant la vraie question est plutôt de se demander quelle est la place de l'acteur dans sa réflexion esthétique. On passe ainsi de la théorie de l'expressivité, énoncée contre Meyerhold au début de sa carrière (celle du raccourci, du « revivre » et de l'espace scénique, qui concernent les phases antérieures au filmage), à l'élaboration d'une théorie entièrement liée à la prise de vues et la mise en cadre. Le corps de l'acteur est omniprésent dans le système eisensteinien sans n'être jamais théorisé pour lui-même, comme il l'est chez Meyerhold ou Kouléchov, en raison de son irréductibilité à la commutation du sens, en raison de son altérité.
