<scp>P</scp>15.03: Inter‐correlation of various Doppler ultrasound measurements in prolonged pregnancy: a single site pilot study

Abstract
In this pilot study, Doppler ultrasound was used to measure placental circulation. Pulsatility Index (PI) and Resistance Index (RI) were measured in the left and right umbilical arteries, renal arteries, uterine arteries, and middle cerebral artery in postdates pregnant women. The inter-correlation of the measurements was assessed by pairwise correlations (Pearson's r) for all measurements. A total of 75 women were successfully recruited. The PI pairwise correlations between the left and right side of umbilical arteries, renal arteries, and uterine arteries were r =0.33, (p =0.01), r =0.36, (p =0.01), and r =0.03, (p =0.79) respectively. Correlations for RI measurements for same vessels were r =0.40, (p =0.01), r =0.29, (p =0.03), and r =0.20, (p =0.09) respectively. Correlations between all Doppler indices were all below r <0.40. Our study found minimal correlation between the different novel ultrasound predictors of adverse perinatal outcomes in prolonged pregnancy. This indicates that the laterality of the paired vessels, whether on the left or right side of the body, influences important Doppler blood flow parameters. Further studies are needed to determine which indices are better to predict the adverse perinatal outcomes in prolonged pregnancy.
