Abstract
Cas singulier de la modernisation de l’après-guerre au Canada-Français, le père Marcel-Marie Desmarais fera de la prédication un moyen d’atteindre le coeur pour stimuler moralement l’intelligence de l’âme. Largement diffusé dans les médias, il insistera sur la nécessité d’unir l’amour moderne aux préceptes du christianisme. Sa prédication connaîtra une très grande popularité, surtout dans la jeunesse de l’époque. Plus qu’une illustration des transformations socioculturelles, son oeuvre témoigne de l’ébranlement du cadre traditionnel de la prédication et de l’essor d’un nouveau type de prédication qui, progressivement, substituera à la finalité communautaire, sociale et politique du sermon, une visée implicitement thérapeutique.
