Abstract

The ion flow driven acoustic instability reported in Phys. Plasmas 12, 032105 (2005) is a result of improper expansion of the dispersion relation and violates the basic electron adiabaticity condition ∣ω∣≪kvTe (electron transit frequency) upon which the analysis is based. An unabridged (unexpanded) dispersion relation does not predict any instability when the ion flow is of the order of the ion acoustic speed.
