Abstract
Le présent article porte sur la façon dont l’identité juive canadienne s’est inscrite et négociée à même le corps des juives ashkénazes (d’Europe de l’Est) à Montréal au cours des années 1950, 1960 et 1970. Prises au sein d’une culture nordaméricaine de la beauté idéalisant des traits physiques précis, ces femmes ont souvent entretenu une relation difficile avec leur propre corps et eu de la difficulté à trouver leur place dans le modèle canadien. Mettant largement à contribution des entretiens personnels ainsi que divers livres de recettes et magazines féminins, l’auteure explore comment ces femmes ont à la fois dissimulé et révélé leur singularité et leur ressemblance, et comment le fait d’être juive ou d’être blanche s’est traduit, codifié et projeté sur leur corps.
