Abstract
Deux jeunes Antillais, Jeff et Grégoire, amis depuis longtemps, ont commis de nombreux crimes que Jeff planifiait, que Grégoire exécutait et pour lesquels Jeff acceptait d’être emprisonné. Ils se retrouvent un jour dans une cellule de prison après un braquage qui a mal tourné. Ils font face alors à un dilemme : rester tous les deux en prison ou consentir à ce que l’un des deux soit libéré parce que l’autre aura pris sur lui toute la responsabilité du crime. En partageant leurs souvenirs et leurs rêves, ils se confrontent et dressent un portrait féroce de la société guadeloupéenne. Ainsi Maryse Condé fait-elle réfléchir sur les carences institutionnelles qui n’offrent aucune solution à leur situation.
